Luis Gonzalez, renowned for his iconic 2001 World Series game-winning hit, now serves as Senior Advisor to the President, CEO, and General Partner of the D-backs. Throughout his illustrious MLB career, spanning 19 years with several teams, he amassed impressive statistics, solidifying his place among baseball legends. In his 16th year with the D-backs, he engages with fans, aids in various departments, and contributes to community initiatives. Gonzalez’s impact extends to the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation, where he supports charitable causes and interacts with players across all levels. Notably, his number 20 jersey was retired in 2010, and Gonzo’s Grill at Chase Field donates proceeds to his charitable endeavors. His focus on supporting first responders led to the creation of Gonzo’s Hometown Heroes Fund. Additionally, he champions youth causes through the "Going Gonzo for Kids".
Recognized for his contributions, Gonzalez was a two-time D-backs nominee for the prestigious Roberto Clemente Award (2000 and 2003), an annual MLB award given to a player on each team who best exemplifies the talents, spirit and heart of the legend both on and off the field. Additionally, his community efforts earned him the 2005 Branch Rickey Award. Gonzalez has been inducted into multiple sports halls of fame and serves on multiple boards, including most recently being inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame last year.
